The ULTRA system was conceived to provide the UK with a world leading ultrafast spectroscopy research facility.
The ULTRA detector is a key part of that ultrafast LASER detector system, allowing the high repetition, (>20KHz) ultrafast, intense (>10W av power) LASER pulses to be exploited in the analysis of dynamic spectroscopy.
In addition to the above applications, ULTRA behaves ideally as an X-Ray sensitive fast 1D detector with a reverse illuminated silicon strip installed.
