XSPRESS3

The XSPRESS3 readout system is based on the popular XSPRESS systems that are in use at the ESRF and Diamond Light Source on multielement germanium detectors. XSPRESS3 is being designed specifically to be highly compatible with Silicon Drift Diode detectors. This new readout system will enable readout speeds of more than 4X the rates currently available and with low noise levels. XSPRESS3 is currently under development, but will be released early 2012.

We are interested in all forms of customer input. If you are interested in one of these readout systems and have views to share, we'd love to hear them! Please get in touch.

The adaptive filter in XSPRESS3 offers the best use of the data available. Instead of picking a shaping time and working with the results, the system effectively takes data at all shaping times from 12.5ns to 12.8µs and squeezes every bit of resolution in time and energy out of it. So at the same time as capturing the highest resolution data, with 1024 points above and below the edge, the system is also capturing data at a rate of 80MHz with as little as one point above and below each edge. All of this, without the need to repeat the experiment even once to try a different shaping time. The outcome is a much greater understanding of the experiment in less experimental time.
