ULTRA Detector System for Lasers explored at Dusseldorf

Peter Gilch, Benjamin Marx and Evelyn Plötz at the  Heinrich-Heine-Universität in Dusseldorf installed the cutting edge ULTRA Detector System for lasers on their newly installed laboratory. Staff from QD and Benjamin Marx connected the detector to a Princeton Acton SP2300 spectrometer. Data was taken with a selection of samples at a wide range of time scales. The ULTRA detector enabled the group to measure 5X more light in the same period, reducing the noise of the measurements by a significant factor. At 20,000 frames per second, the rate of the ULTRA enables measurements that usually take 10s of minutes to be completed in a fraction of the time. The board-band laser source, a setup unique to the Gilch group, along with the ULTRA Detector System provides a great advantage over previously comparable systems.
